We have reluctantly decided to cancel this year’s event. This is due to the logistics of staging the event at Steyning whilst under Covid restrictions and BTF guidelines. Whilst we planned & built in a number of contingencies this year, there is an understandable hesitance to enter events in the current climate. However, entries for the Arundel Lido Triathlon two weeks later on the 16th May are open.
2021 will be the 21st anniversary of the Steyning Triathlon and will take place at the Leisure Centre on the Sunday 2nd May. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will inevitably be a degree of social distancing and adhering to guidelines/restrictions imposed by British Triathlon and the local council. Our aim is to keep things the same as much as possible. The event is likely to be smaller than previous years due to social distancing, the swim distances may change and we’ll need to change the run route so that it doesn’t go through the town. Other than that, we’re hoping it’ll go ahead as normal.
As this is one of the first triathlons of the year, there will be many competitors keen to race again after 2020. Please don’t leave it too late to enter as we already have many entries deferred from last year. What you will get though is a cracking event that’s stood the test of time and has people coming back year after year. The event is suitable for triathletes of all abilities whether you’re honing your pre-season training or a complete novice, everyone is welcome.
Steyning is a small picturesque market town at the foot of the South Downs National Park situated between Brighton and Worthing in West Sussex. The heated pool has 4 lanes and competitors are seeded according to their estimated swim time before embarking on a great rolling bike course along the A283 and A24 which are regularly used for time trials. Finally, a run, which for the first time in the events history will weave its way out towards the Downs Link before finishing at the Leisure Centre. We’ll have a coffee barista on hand as well as hot and cold food and drinks on the grass by the finish, showers and free onsite parking. Alan Law Physiotherapy will be available for a post-race massage and then why not stroll into town for wander around the shops and highly rated cafe’s and pubs. The Standard & Relay start from 6am and the Sprint at 7:40am.
